This may be familiar to you.

There are three sides to every story. Your side. My side and the truth. I heard this from a man that had a great influence in my life. Pastor Robert Armstrong. Pastor of Warrendale Community Church and an immense student of the bible.

You can’t really get to far away from God and the bible when you are talking about the truth. This is not going to be about God or the bible, but about finding the truth and than being able to live the truth in our everyday lives. Something that many, but not all, are looking to achieve in their lives.

This is about Tiger Woods. I know that so much has been written about the whole story of the accident and the infidelity, but I wanted to put my two cents in.

Everywhere I go and everything that I see, I am hard pressed to find an ounce of truth anywhere. Nobody tells the truth anymore. Do your own search. See if you can find the truth anywhere and especially….. in your own heart.

I look at my self, Brian Gosur, and I am doing much better now in my life with truth then I have ever done before, but it is still a struggle. I don’t do it all the time. Why is it so hard to tell the truth?

The definition from the dictionary for the word “hypocrite”, is a person who pretends to have virtues and principles, that he doesn’t actually posses. It comes from a Greek word that means, ” a stage actor, one speaking from under a mask.” Now I know your thinking of a couple of people who you would like to apply this to, but first I want you to take a long hard look at the person in the mirror.

Now I don’t mean to put anymore guilt on Tiger Woods then already is there, but I would like to look at his incident to explain what I just described. Tiger Woods children, wife, and Tiger Wood, needs our prayers and support. Anyone of us, given those circumstances, could have been in the same situation.

Tiger Woods grew up in a good home. I don’t know all the details, but for the most part, he had good parents who instilled in him good morals and character to make him what he is today. Not just the best golfer and sports figure of our time, but the fiber and quality of a good man. A good catch for any women, and believe me, there were lots of them knocking on his door.

A handsome guy. A guy of solid morals and quality character. All of Tiger Woods endorsements, all of Tiger Woods wins, and all of Tiger Woods net worth, put him on a shelf above all of us. The crown jewel of what every parent wants for their daughter. Just think of what it would be like! But with all this comes the recipe for the perfect storm that not to many people have been able to withstand.

This man’s upbringing, training and every moral fiber of his being would be tested, as it is with all of us. We’ve all gone through this. Although the wealth, fame, and spotlight may have not been there, but we all went through what Tiger Woods went through. Before you pass judgment on him, how did you do? Maybe you got by and swept it under the rug before anyone noticed.

I know that I failed my test. I won’t go into all the details, but I failed and I hurt a lot of people and many lives were changed forever, because of what I did. In my case, only the people involved will know what I’m talking about, but in Tiger Woods case, the whole world is watching. There is no hiding place for him.

When I first heard about this I was completely taken back like everyone else was. Tiger Woods? This could not be true. He would have been the last person I would ever figure for something like this.

Tiger did his best to cover up and twist the truth and hide from any questions. He did his best to protect his image of one who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, and principles that he didn’t possess. Or does he?

I really think that Tiger Woods has all those qualities deep down. You could always see it and hear it whenever he talked. These are qualities that you can’t fake. He did make a huge mistake, as we all do while we are growing up. I do think he is seeing the real person inside that mirror now. I do pray that it is still going to be OK for Tiger Woods wife and him. She has got to grow also, and together they can learn to build through all this and walk with the truth by their side.

Drill and fill aerification will make any playing field better. All grass needs roots that grow deep into the soil. They also need oxygen, which they normally get from pockets of air found in the dirt. You may not be able to see any of what is happening under your turf but that is where the problem most likely lies.

When your soil compacts the pockets of air are lost. This happens on any field that has heavy traffic. It is mostly reported on sports fields and golf courses. This also occurs from the mowing equipment used to keep the grass looking good.

For any amount of acreage to be done you will need machinery. The method needs to go deep enough into the soil to give the roots of the turf the oxygen they need to grow. If the correct depth is not achieved the roots will not get the air they need.

What seems to work best for aeration of the soil is a straight in and out process done by a drill. This will leave smooth holes in the turf with only a small amount pulled up when the holes were created. The other benefit of this approach is that it keeps the soil residue to a minimum.

Within days after using this method the turf will look like nothing was even done. This is something that gold courses are concerned about. They do not want to shut down to do any maintenance but having poor turf is an important thing to consider for golfers.

A lot of the discussion comes down to the depth of the hole. This all depends on the type of soil, how much sand or clay may be underneath and the last time any aeration was done. Any sports turf specialist will be able to provide you with a analysis just by looking at your turf

The other thing to think about is the time of year to aerate. Normally it is done when the turf is still growing. The roots can continue to grow at a faster rate because the dirt around them will be loose. This will be done at different times of the year based on the climate.

The professional that do these types of jobs come fully equipped with many machines and large staffs. They should be able to do over two acres a day. You will have use of your playing field or golf course sometimes the same day depending on the timing and the size. The benefits to doing a drill and fill aerification process include, less disease and moss and of course deeper roots for your turf.

The majority of amateurs do not complete an effective and efficient putting practice before a round of golf and this can be a major cause of dropping shots on the opening holes of a round. This failure to practice properly results in the following types of errors:

The amateur putts the ball well short of the hole The amateur putts the ball in a direction they had not intended (i.e. without accuracy) The amateur putts the ball past the hole

For all amateurs, the value of spending some time on the practice green can pay huge dividends by saving you shots over the first six holes. Here is a five minute drill to be performed before a round of golf that will help you zone in on your putting alignment and gauge the speed of the greens.

Alignment

To zone in on correct alignment, you should try lining yourself up for a 10 foot putt on the practice green. Put one of your irons (say a 5 iron) down at your toes once you feel you are lined up correctly. Now look down the length of the iron on the ground. Is the alignment correct? Is the club pointing accurately towards the hole? If not, then try changing how you line up a putt. Pick a point to aim for that is closer to your ball, rather than closer to the hole.

Distances

The importance of performing a distance drill is that it establishes in your mind how the speed of the greens is over 3 distances. You can practice several distances if time allows but it\’s usually simpler to focus on the feeling of putting a long, medium and short putting distance.

Beginning with a long putt, you want to try to make 10 of these long putts and you should focus on making the distance the ball travels accurate (to establish long green speed).

Next choose a medium length putt around the 10 foot distance and preferably a distance which you experience often. Again, take up to 10 practice putts and try to get to within a meter of the hole. Being accurate is important with this drill so you wish to have some putts going in.

And lastly, perform some short putts close to the hole so you get a high number of putts going. This is good for your confidence and will be good practice for the large amount of one metre putts that happen in any round of golf.

In conclusion, all amateurs should perform some putting drills prior to a round of golf to gauge the green speed, even if they play the course regularly, as factors such as the green\’s soil water content, the time of the day and the length of the grass can adversely affect the ball speed.

It is a very good idea to know the basic golf rules and manners before you play for the first time. Golf is a game of rules and manners.

Whether you are playing alone, in a twosome or a foursome, you must always wait your turn. Do not hit the ball at the same time as another player. If you are playing with others, wait for your turn to hit the ball.

Always be courteous. Don’t rush the group in front of you. Wait until they are well ahead of you before hitting your ball.

You will keep the game moving if you determine what club youll need and how you are going to hit it while you wait for your turn. You will always be ready and you won’t feel rushed.

If your team is holding up the players behind you, let them play through. You can wave them through. If they are close enough, ask them if they would like to play through.

It is extremely distracting when a golfer is ready to tee off and someone decides to jingle coins in his pocket or noisily unwraps a piece of candy. It is polite not to make any noise when someone is making a shot.

Replace your divots. When a clod of dirt and grass goes flying, replace it when you hit the ball in the fairway. You can put the clod back and step on it to press it on at some courses, but there is a sand seed mixture on your card to put into the divot on most courses. If your ball makes a deep impression when it lands on the green, use your divot tool to repair it.

Replace the flag and leave the green as soon as you have completed a hole. That way the next players will be ready to play. Be sure to wait until you are back at your cart to count your score and write it on the scorecard.

By: Marcel White

No, I’m not referring to that hole on the green where the pin rests waiting to be removed to let the golf ball go in. Instead, I’m talking about Black Holes, those regions of cosmic space with a gravitational field so intense that not even light can escape from it. That is, we don’t know anything about what’s inside.

In golf putting there’s also a kind of Black Hole for the great majority of players. Inside, is carefully kept the background needed to confidently face breaking putts. As a consequence, millions of golf players feel like zombies, lost in the middle of sloping greens, having their eyes blindfolded.

Too much drama? I won’t dispute that. I just want to emphasise that there are lots of easy putts missed everyday, everywhere, by golfers that never had the chance to learn how to deal with this subject of breaking putts. And it can be taught and made easy to use for common players of all levels.

Remember your first attempts with breaking putts. Perhaps you are a self made putter that found your way by trial and error; or maybe you went to the golf course with some kind of golf guru that, for every breaking putt, told you to aim x inches, or y feet, or z yards above the hole. And, regardless of the outcome, you were astonished and wondering where did those magic distances come from and desiring to get the talent to decide it on your own. But you found it impossible to discover anything written specifically about it or a serious way to be taught about that.

This is a very important subject because breaking putts are something every golfer has to face several times during a round of golf and, no matter how good his putting technique is, success won’t come unless he chooses a good line. This fact is related with another one. When a golf player has a breaking putt to do he must aim some point that isn’t the cup’s centre and if he or she doesn’t know what kind of ball track the ball will follow all happens as if he, or she, is putting blindfolded. Even for non-golfers it’s easy to feel the drama. And if we consider that during a round of golf almost half of total strokes are putts and more than half of them can be breaking putts, the drama turns to tragedy.

The reason that made this problem remain for so long without some light being shed on it, is the fact that some basic concepts of physics and geometry are needed to deal with it. And those 2 words are scary and intimidate common people, even before you enter the subject. This means we are facing a kind of vicious circle: the problem is important and needs to be addressed, the solution is based on some basic concepts that scare people, no one dares, so, the problem remains unsolved.

The first serious attempt I know to break this stalemate is an ebook called Golf Putting Lines that is now selling online (http://www.puttinglines.com). As far as I know, there are no other books, articles, videos, whatever, thoroughly treating this subject. It assumes that correctly identifying lines is a matter that requires some background in physics and geometry that the great majority of golf players don’t have, or don’t remember, or don’t even want to hear about for its reputation of being difficult and inappropriate for a golfing environment. As a consequence, objective number one was to make it simple at any cost. I believe it is and I also believe it’s accessible for anyone with a normal background.

This is what is inside:

>Insights about ball tracks. The concept; the different kinds.

>Break definition and the right point where it must be measured.

>Introduction to the concepts of “aim point” and “break point”.

>Explanations about break and clues to evaluate how much a putt will break.

>Analysis of the different factors that affect ball trajectory.

>Suggestions of some drills and experiments that will help golfers to become more sensitive to the several green factors that influence putting lines and, as a consequence, make them more confident with those putts that used to make people sweat even in cold winter days.

For those interested in a deeper insight, it´s also revealed why and how things happen and no more than that. This is a separate chapter everybody can skip without major consequences.

There is also room for surprise, for instance, when it’s explained why putts in the range 1 to 4 yards (roughly) are more reliable if there is a clear break to consider than if they look flat and level.

Interesting, as well, is the fact that the ebook is as succinct as possible because the author believes readers are looking for solutions, not for literature.

The result is an ebook that tries to fill the gap between the solutions every golfer needs to become a better player and the theory behind those solutions, something no one is remotely interested in. In other words, it is a successful attempt to provide some gain without pain.

What you wear to play a round of golf will depend on where you go. The more exclusive the club you go to, the more restrictive the dress code will be. Some clubs will only allow certain types of shoes, for instance, while others will only allow certain colors to be worn. It is well worth your time to know the rules of your club before you even load your clubs to avoid either looking foolish or being turned away for having on improper attire. For the public courses, the dress codes are usually a little more lenient.
In the old days, the uniform of the golfer was stiff and itchy wool, year round, with very little breathability and ease of movement. And, back then, it was even worse for the few women that played the game; they were forced to wear full skirts, blouses right up to their chins and big hats. No wonder golf took so long to catch on with the general public! Now, there are better materials, with better breathability and comfort. Closer cut clothing allows for better range of movement, and better overall swing.
Golf can be expensive enough without adding the clothing into the mix. Do not get caught up in dressing a certain way if it is really not necessary to do so. If there is not a rule in place forcing you to do so, do not feel compelled to buy a lot of “golf pants” or other related wear. Pay attention to the other golfers and get a general idea of what everybody is wearing. This will give you an idea of what is acceptable and standard at this course. Wear the clothing that fits your body, your budget and your personal tastes. Keep in mind several things however:
1) Cotton is one of the best materials for summer month play. It is breathable, soft and will protect against chafing, while allowing for sweat evaporation.
2) Lighter colors reflect more of the sun’s light, thus keeping you cooler as well.
3) If you can afford it, there are tops that are treated to block the sun’s rays as well as to discourage flying pests.
4) Keep fit in mind as well: too tight and you will not be comfortable, and risk skin breakdown. Too loose and you might impede your own play.

Wear what looks good, fits well and makes you feel like a golfer.

Some of the market’s best golf training aids are proven to be just as effective as hiring a professional golf tutor. They are not as pricey as hiring a professional and you can train at your leisure and at your own pace. A training aid is ideal for correcting the ins and outs of your swing, especially if exercising and stretching your upper body are not making an impact. A flexible, pliant upper body is excellent for a perfect swing, and a training aid will work with your work outs.

Will a golf training aid truly improve my game?

Slide in some minutes of practice whenever you can. Morning coffee break, lunch hours, a minute or two before supper or right before bed. If you have the bigger, hoop-style trainer that traces the path of your swing to check whether you’re swinging on that wanted ideal plane, you’ll need more practice time. Even if your training system is a book or DVD series, it will take you through a sequence of incessant motions and work on your muscle memory. All sports action depends on the body’s fantastic reply to the same motion, made over and over so that eventually your body recalls the action and does it involuntarily.

Get objective advice

If your buddy has a lousy swing, they won’t be ready to help you much. Check with the pro at your local course and ask them to look at you’re taking a swipe with your favorite driver. Ask him to locate your problem and make some recommendations as to what sort of training aids work suit you best. It could be a special club that is sold retail in the pro shop. It might be as simple as a DVD series that he’d endorse. Some trainers are massive devices where you stand in the middle of a ring and your blunders are detected and shown to you. Those are pricey – as high as $800 or $900, so count on the target recommendation of an expert.

More hits all of the time.

Cut back on those faulty swings, get that club face square on the ball at impact, pick up club head speed and swing like a pro. That’s's your goal when you select a golf training aid. Any golf swing trainer that promises more results with less practice time should be avoided, as perfecting your swing will still take repetition as you exercise that muscle memory. You may not break 90 this year, but practice and difficult work make perfect.

If you are looking to boost your game, the Medicus driver is the golf swing trainer you want. It’ll help you to get rid of your hooks and slices.

Prepare your hold. Professional players will tell you that the strength of your turn relies on the power of your hold. A weak hold will, more often than not, end in a weak turn. A weak hold all through a strong turn will end inan unruly angle for the ball in action. Practice the proper hold and you will have better control over the ball.

Warm-ups are significant. “But it’s only golf,” you may utter, “all the actions I will do are limited to hitting the ball, marching to its new location, and hitting it once more.” Unfortunately, golf if more than that. Trust it or not, though golf is predominantly a psychological sport, it is also a sport that needs precise actions of the nerves. Only during preparations will you be able to loosen up your nerves for the challenges that lies ahead. Do some preliminary workouts- like brisk, stationary walks, stretches, and even plain joint rotations- prior to a game of golf and you’ll instantly see that the features of your body that ordinarily tenses up during stress-packed moments of the game will be gentler, more relaxed, and set to perform better.

Determine the stroke required for each swing. Tempo refers to the evenness of the shot needed by a particular shot. It involves the application of the right amount of power by right shifting of your load, as well as the steadiness of the movement minus unnecessary tugs or yanks. No golfer is initially with the proper pace. Tempo is developed and completed through practice.

Blame the iron. Believe it or not, neophytes in the sport expereince a bad game not because of the inadequacies of their tactics solely, but also because of their selection of the improper irons for particular shots. There is a discipline in choosing the proper club for a particular turn or putt. Learn this discipline and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a better golfer.

Don’t fail to remember the follow up. You see basketball players with their follow up after releasing a shot. It’s not that actions after the shot influence the course of the same. It’s because considering about the follow up before it happens can actually enhance one’s pace. Golf, much the same as basketball and other sports, is a game of pace as well, and developing your own follow up can vastly improve your technique.

by Arthur Poretsky

Y.E. Yang shocked the world and probably himself by beating the world’s best golfer, and maybe the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods, by coming back from 2 strokes down Sunday to win the PGA Championship. Yang is the first Asian player to win a Major, the first player to beat Tiger Woods when Woods was tied or all alone in the lead after 54 holes of golf. Golf enthusiasts cheered, David took down Goliath, 12 never struck for Cinderella, No. 110 took down No. 1.Yay? I don’t think the PGA, it’s sponsors, or the casual golf fan are very happy. Tiger Woods in the starter, middle reliever, and closer for the PGA. Without Tiger, as we saw last year, no one cares. Now, people are getting the feeling that Tiger has lost it. He didn’t win a major this year and pretty much choked away the PGA Championship after missing the cut at the British Open.

Tiger hasn’t lost it, he’s won 5 tournaments this year, coming from 5 strokes back on Sunday to win one, and coming back from 8 shots down Thursday to win by 3 strokes on Sunday. But, as I said, casual golf fans don’t get that. In fact, most sports fans probably don’t get that because he hasn’t performed in the biggest events, the Majors, the moneymakers, the events that pull in the biggest ratings.

For the short-term, Yang’s victory makes for an interesting story and may feed the media with some fuel for now. But the 2009 PGA season is devoid of stories. A lack of a Tiger win, and Tom Watson’s falling short at the British Open both make for some major disappointments compared to what could have been.

Yet, this pushes it to another level. You’re talking about the greatest golfer on Earth, losing to some no-name from South Korea who probably won’t win another major. If Tiger had won, it would’ve given hope to next year, a hope maybe he finally does what he was destined to do, win all the major in the same year and pass Jack Nicklaus for the most Major wins ever.

What do people get to look to now? “Oh, I can’t wait to see Tiger take revenge in the exciting series of FedEx cup event”? No! They are looking to, “Hey, Anthony Kim or Rory McIllroy are ready to take the torch next year.”

Tiger must bounce back in 2009. He is the face of the PGA, and any story lines lacking Tiger Woods will do anything but help the sport grow.

Let’s hope that 2010 brings us the return of Tiger Woods, just as the 2009 tennis season has done for Roger Federer after a disappointing 2008. While fans may have cheered on Yang as he defeated Tiger today, you can be sure they’re pulling for Tiger over the long run.
