Elliptical Fitness Equipment And Its Benefits

Elliptical fitness equipments have other names such as cross elliptical trainers, elliptical gliders, elliptical trainers, elliptical steppers, elliptical exercises or just plain elliptical. They look very similar to that of a treadmill, stepper, ski machine, exercise bike all put in a single compact and neat package.

Elliptical machines are so called because when you use the machine you can move your feet in an elliptical path. Though this machine is a fairly new addition to a hoard of other home fitness equipments, they are becoming more and more popular among people who are looking for an effective equipment to do cardio exercises.

The rising popularity of elliptical fitness equipment is not surprising as it is one of the best options available today to get fit at home. Many people prefer to use an elliptical machine instead of a treadmill or other fitness equipments.

One of the main reasons for its popularity is that they are very simple to operate and use. Elliptical machines are gentler on you joints when compared to other types of fitness equipments, say a treadmill. This is due to the fact that elliptical exercises are low impact, meaning that your feet are in contact with the footpads during the whole process.

Another advantage is that these machines are generally very quite. This means no disturbance to your family and moreover you can enjoy music or your favorite show on TV as you sweat away your calories. On an average, you can burn about 700 calories and tone your body simultaneously by exercising in an elliptical machine for an hour.

Elliptical fitness equipment that has been specifically designed for home use is very compact. Though one needs a reasonable amount of place, it would still be lesser than the space that is required for standard treadmills. Elliptical machines are less expensive than that of a treadmill which is of same quality and are also reliable than that of a treadmill.

At most times elliptical machines of good quality act as cross trainers where one can exercise both legs and arms at the same time, which will lets you have balanced workout sessions when compared to other equipments which focuses only on your legs.

The only disadvantage of these equipments is that, if one is training for marathons or for running long distances then the training from these machines alone is not adequate as the movement of this equipment is not the same as that running or walking.
