SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS Review

Before GPS technology was mainstream, golfers in the past continued to play their game only assisted with minimal hints of technology. Recently, GPS devices have been changing not only the way travelers explore, but also the way ordinary drivers are reaching their destinations. Despite the success stories, some people do not mind these GPS devices because the midrange and high-end devices don’t come cheap costing over $300.

Not only are GPS devices changing the way people drive, but they’re changing how golfers work on improving their games. One such device, the Skycaddie SG5, has gone far beyond boundaries and found its way into the pockets of golfers everywhere, making it a huge success financially. After reading a Skycaddie SG5 review, we found that many golfers praise the unit for its ease of use and functionality, but others are wondering if the Skycaddie SG5 is worth its $350 price tag. After reading this review, we decided to do a review of our own to find the answer to this question.

Certain technologies like the IntelliGreen technology work perfectly with the full color display, giving golfers total control of the green. Statistics are easily observed including back yardages, front carry, and the green depth. Once the IntelliGreen Pro, which is still in Beta is released the major tiers, mounds, and contours will be displayed.

The IntelliGreen technology works in conjunction with the QuickVue technology to highlight the best path all the way from the tee to the green. Because the 2.2″ backlit LCD display is easy to see, golfers can quickly recognize the shape of the green and the hole. This feature doubles as a progress tracker, allowing users to retrieve more statistics including the distance from their current position to the green.

The Skycaddie SG5 provides much more than just a visual aid to golfers. Other statistics are stored and displayed which can take the place of traditional scorecards. Golfers that take advantage of digital scoring only have to set their preferences and par for a customized handicap setting. After a shot is made, golfers can press a single button and the device will display exactly how far the ball traveled. This proves useful when experimenting with a variety of clubs.

The SG5 is designed to follow the golfer not in terms of just location, but also literally guides the golfer throughout the entire golfing session by recording any statistics that can be reviewed at anytime. Since it relies on the downloaded maps, the Skycaddie should have no problems.

There is another feature, the HoleVue technology, which is currently in beta testing that will provide the most accurate information possible. This technology goes through the entire course and doesn’t depend on satellite imagery. Not only does this technology add to the eye candy, but it adds a great deal of detail including green targets, bunkers, or other hazards.

The technologies alone should be convincing enough to for golfers to make better plans and lower their score by utilizing the attractive interface. Some other items are included in the package to make the cost reasonable including a car charger, travelling case, and even an LCD protector that is worth $70.
