DRINKING SPREE ENDS IN… FATAL ACCIDENT
HORROR: the remains of the Citi Golf which claimed the lives of a teacher and three in during a horrific crash at Holneck along the Nhlangano-Mahamba road
A drinking spree ended tragically near Nhlangano. a teacher and three young boys died tragically when their speeding Citi-Golf veered off the road and crashed on a concrete at Holneck near Nhlangano yesterday morning. One passenger, who survived, is fighting for his life in hospital.
Sikhumbuzo Jele (27) a teacher at Mahamba High died with Sabelo Nhleko (21) a pupil at Nhlangano Central High, Njabulo Mamba (22) a pupil at Mbukwane High and Vusana Xaba (21) of Masibini. the pupil who survived has been identified as Mxolisi Msibi, who also attended school at Mbukwane High. the five were driving in a car registered SD 130 HF. it is said the five were from a drinking spree when the accident occurred at around 4am. Information is that Jele had only bought the car less than two months ago.drinks it is alleged they first had drinks at a watering hole near Mahamba before proceeding to town, where again they imbibed in liquor at a popular social place, Love Corner Bar situated at the Tobacco Cooperation Complex.they left the place at midnight. it is said with the bar already closed for business, it’s unclear where the five went before the horrific accident. By that time, sources said, they were driving to their respective homes.other reports suggest that earlier on, police did find the five at a bar and wanted to see the driver but they were lied to. the fear, it was suspected, the driver was to be arrested because of his questionable state of sobriety.Police, it is said, spent sometime monitoring the situation and only left to patrol elsewhere a few hours later. it was then that the five decided to leave with Jele taking the driver’s seat and having driven for almost three kilometres along the Nhlangano-Mahamba public road, it is still not clear what exactly disturbed the driver which led to the car smashing on the concrete constructed to prevent livestock from straying into the road. bangThose who reside next to the accident scene said they heard a loud bang. they quickly rushed to the scene. the five were trapped inside the vehicle given the extensiveness of the damage. Fire Department personnel with the police arrived at the scene and found the five trapped in the wrecked vehicle with the three already dead while the teacher who was in a comma died in hospital.the survivor of the horror crash was rushed to Hlatikulu. Word only reached relatives of the victims few hours later and many were found at the Nhlangano Health Centre, where they had hoped the bodies had been kept only to be informed that the bodies had been taken to a private undertaker, Funeral Parlour.familiesThe families were spotted at the police station, where the wrecked vehicle was towed and all were in a sombre mood. the grief was enough to tell the whole story to some of the relatives. Friends also came in their numbers at the police station to have a glimpse of the vehicle.Others including Alfred Msibi, whose grandson Mxolisi was the only survivor of the horrific accident said he heard of the accident while at home resting. “we are now rushing to Hlatikulu to check on Mxolisi. we have learned with shock that the other four he was with in the car died,” said Msibi.
MP, minister mourn the deaths
MASEYISINI MP Mduduzi ‘Small Joe’ Dlamini and Education Minister Wilson Ntshangase sent words of comfort to all relatives of four people that died yesterday.MP Dlamini was part of many sympathisers who were seen at the police station and also at the health centre with some of the relatives.“it is now like our constituency has been jinxed. Many lives have been lost almost in the same spot. we are not blaming anyone, but the devil who is only happy when things like these happen. comfort May we ask the Lord to comfort the families of the deceased. the one who is still battling for his life, we hope God will show his mercy and see him recovering,” said the MP.Minister Ntshangase said the deaths were shattering. he also had words of caution to teachers to avoid hooking pupils into bad habits.

Principals meet at police station
MAHAMBA Principal High School Sam Dlamini together with his counterparts from Nhlangano Central High and Mbukwane High Peter Dlamini and David Mlambo were seen in the company of the relatives of the four deceased persons.Peter said he learned with shock about the deaths.he was seen in the company of other teachers next to the police station, where the wrecked car was parked.“we are saddened by what has happened. Let’s leave everything to God. it is true that one of the passengers who died was our pupil. However, since I am not the right person to make comments, I better not say much,” said Peter.Maseysini MP Mduduzi Small Joe Dlamini was also found at the police station and also went to the Health Centre, where he met with the relatives.Meanwhile, a taxi operator Thulani Dlamini said he had seen the five at Love Corner the previous day.he said he was shocked to find the car at the police station in such a condition.customer“I went to pick a customer at around midnight and they were all there. “the next thing this morning, I found the car in this state and heard that it was involved in an accident where only one managed to survive,” said Dlamini.Some female friends, who were also at the Love Corner said they were saddened by what happened. “we were together enjoying ourselves now this. Life is so cruel,” said one of the ladies who came to inspect the damaged car at the police station. other pupils from Nhlangano Central High with Nhleko who was doing Form four described his death as a cruel blow in particular to the school soccer team. One of his colleagues, Comfort Mamba, who is also the school’s anti-crime club leader said Nhleko was a great asset to the school’s soccer team.
