He has lectured, taught and entertained throughout the valley, including at Primm Valley Casino, Town Center Lounge and at various charity golf tournaments.

How To Use Long Putters

A common putting flaw I see in my golf lessons is excessive wrist action. Increased wrists leads to a loss of control of the putterhead before impact and an abundance of missed putts. with greens in better condition these days, the need for precision in putting has grown. In other words, you must overcome this putting flaw to achieve a lower golf handicap. Enter the long putters.

Long putters curb wrist action by anchoring the putter to a fixed point–your stomach or your sternum. While I prefer a regular putter to a long one. I encourage players who take my golf lessons to use whichever putter works for them. I also encourage them to learn the proper technique using a long putter, which I described in my golf tips.

Three broad categories of putters exist: regular, long, and extra long. Regular (or the standard length) putters measure 33 to 36 inches long. Long putters (or mid-length) putters measure 38 to 45 inches. And extra-long putters measure from 46 to 52 inches or so. most long putters have split grips. try several types before choosing one.

Once you’ve selected a putter, you need to learn how to hit it. below are some golf tips on hitting long and extra-long putters.

The extra long putter takes wrist action almost completely out of play, replacing it with a fixed center (sternum) around which your putterhead moves. with the extra long putter you need to think pendulum. The sweeping pendulum-like stroke needed with an extra long putter is more consistent than the stroke required for a regular length putter. Plus, the club is easier on the back than a regular length putter. however, the extra long putter does have a weakness–lack of distance control.

To use the long putter, place your top hand at the top of the putter’s grip and place the grip against your sternum. You can grip the club with the other hand as you normally would. or, you can try another grip. Some players hold the shaft like a pencil. Others hold the shaft between the curled index finger and middle fingers of the right hand. either way works as long as the top of the shaft ends at about the height of the logo on your shirt when you’re in a slightly upright putting stance and the putter’s sole is resting on the ground.

You have two ways to applying force with a long putter–bending and straightening of the right arm or rocking motion your shoulders. Some players prefer to bend and straighten their right arms (for right-handers). Others prefer to rock their shoulders back and forth. whichever method you choose, it’s essential keep the upper body still so it can act as the fulcrum around which the pendulum- like swing moves.

Mid-length putters are 10 to 12 inches longer than a regular putter and have either an extended grip or a split one. with this type of putter having the right length club is critical. The putter should extend to about three inches beyond your belly button when you’re standing in the upright position. Your height and body shape will determine the exact length for you.

Using a mid-length putter is a lot like using a regular putter except, of course, for anchoring the putter to your mid-section–which provides the foundation for your swing. The anchored shaft stabilizes the club around the hinge point, taking the wrist out of play. You’re options for putting the ball are the same as with the long putter. User either your right arm to pull and push the club or your shoulders to provide a smooth, rhythmic swing.

Both the long putter and the extra-long putter are viable alternatives to a regular length putter. Both minimize wrist action when hit properly and both need a stable anchor point to be effective. Both they also require you to learn a new a putting technique to hit them properly. but learning a new putting technique is only the first step in using these putters. You still need to practice with them every chance you get, if you want to lower your golf handicap.

Golf Tips??????????….?

I am going to play golf tomorrow. I can drive 220 yards with an old fashion driver, (not the big head one). I am 13. what tips can I use for all around golf? Thanks

Just relax and have a good time. Don't try to hit the ball hard, just try to get it closer to the hole. Practice on you chipping and putting and it will take you far.

Simple tips such as relaxation and confidence are a must, but for the best tips you should take some lessons with your local pro, he can tell you some great tips whether related to golf or how you can strengthen mentally.

Just relax go out there and have a good time. If you are playing a little slow and the people behind you are getting pissed off just let them play threw and continue on your way. Golf is a great game but too many people who are probably weekend golfers at best get all pissed off if they dont play perfect.

How do you get backspin when playing golf? Do you have to have pro clubs?

golf, instruction, help

No, you must hit down on the ball and don't be affraid to take a chunk of grass. When you see grass fly as the pros hit it, thats when they hit a spin shot.

you can get a lot golf tips if you google it and the clubs don't make a difference, it's talent and practice! also, play for FUN.

" there is a force to the universe that makes things happen. all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen and be the ball" – Ty Webb, Caddyshack

Use a high loft wedge like a pitching wedge or a sand wedge and an 80 compression ball (a lady's golf ball will make the higher spin rate easier to achieve)

Yes you have to chop down on the ball and follow thru. And yes Ladies Balls are softer and easier to put spin on.

bounce it off a tree

You do not need any type of club of anything… all you need to do is learn on how to pinch the ball while not being afraid to take a nice chunk of grass. just be carefull that you are not hitting it really fat. you want to make sure that you are pinching right behind the ball with a steeper swing.

get ready to take a big chunk of the ground if you want to spin it

New to Golf? Simple Golf Tips to Get You Started

Have you just decided to take up golf? Or have you recently begun to play? here are some essential but simple golf tips to get started on the right foot.

It is very tempting to jump in and buy a beautiful new set of expensive golf clubs. But don’t. Today’s golf equipment comes in a great variety for different golfing styles and abilities. Since you’re just starting out and really don’t know which type of clubs will suite you best, hold off on that purchase. Golf clubs aren’t cheap. You should expect to spend a few hundred or even thousands of dollars on a set.

If you get a set of clubs that doesn’t suit you, now you’re stuck. You can probably sell them, but it will be a big loss. If you absolutely MUST have your own clubs, start with a half set. this generally consists of five irons, two woods, and a putter. Get odd numbered irons – 3,5,7,9 – and wedge. this is plenty to get you started.

A better idea is to rent clubs or borrow so you can try out a few different ones. once you are ready to buy, consider getting slightly used second hand clubs. most pro shops and driving ranges sell them. they can give you advice and let you try out some different clubs.

You may meet fellow golfers that have their used clubs for sale, too. I again stress that you need know which clubs suit you before you buy. Don’t spend a lot of money at this stage.

You are probably chomping at the bit to playing an actual round of golf. Sorry, but don’t even think about going to a golf course yet. Without having gone through any type of golf training program, you’ll probably get very frustrated. besides, it’s really not fair for the golfers behind to have to wait for you.

tart at a driving range, take a few lessons, and get the basics under your belt. Then, you can play a 9 hole course. As you improve your golf game, you can work your way up to an 18 hole course.

You can take golf instruction lessons at driving ranges and golf clubs. You don’t have to join a golf club to get a lesson from their golf pro. You can find lots of beginner golf instruction materials online. there are some excellent golf books, DVD’s, and videos on the market that will help you to establish the fundamentals of the simple golf swing: grip, stance and posture.

Here’s an important beginner golf tip – stick to the basics and don’t get blinded by too much technical information. getting totally confused won’t help your golf game or your enjoyment of the sport, either.

Golf is a fantastic game. take some time easing into it. You will find it a rewarding pass time, sometimes totally frustrating, and always challenging. Like many others, you may find it downright addictive!

Golf Lessons – Proper Way to Grip a Golf Club

First the golfer will need to place the thumb that is opposite of what hand is used for golfing onto the club’s shaft. if the golfer is a left-handed golfer then that person will need to put the right hand thumb on the shaft. the thumb should be placed at the center of the shaft but it should be moved to the right in a slight manner. After this is done the other hand should be placed over the hand that is on the club already.

The thumb on the golfer’s primary hand should be placed above the other thumb and the fingers on that hand should hold onto the club’s shaft. one of the best golf tips to use here is to keep the grip slightly off center at this point.

When working with the rest of the fingers it will help to watch for where on the fingers they are touching the shaft. the middle of the index finger should be placed on the shaft while the spot between the ring finger and the palm should be used for the last finger.

When getting the hands onto the shaft the fingers should have more control of the club than the palms. when the fingers have more control it will be easier for the wrists to be able to move properly with the club so that it will be easier to get longer drives that go in the right spot.

The next of the golf tips to use is to practice the swinging process that is used for the club. While it does feel uncomfortable at first it will help to work with this grip over time so that the golfer will be more comfortable with it. Even a typical golf pro might not have been comfortable with the grip at first.

This process for how to grip a golf club is something that is very useful to consider. this is one of the most important parts of golf lessons and is something that a golf pro teaches students so it will help to know how to get a grip to work properly.
