How to Get a GOLF Scholarship and PLAY in College – Part 3

Not all athletic scholarships are full ride like football and basketball; so called “head count sports”, most are classed as “equivalency sports”, like golf. This means that coaches can “share” their allocation between a larger numbers of players.

There are 298 Div I and 199 Div II colleges that offer men’s golf scholarships and for women there are 247 Div I and 109 Div II colleges that offer scholarships.

The NCAA allows each Div I men’s golf program 4.5 scholarships and in Div II 3.6 are available. for women there are 6 scholarships available in Div I and 5.4 in Div II.

That’s a total of 2,236.5 men’s golf scholarships and 1,922.4 women’s golf scholarships in the NCAA alone. These numbers don’t include NAIA or NJCAA. the NAIA offers a great place to play and the NJCAA is perfect for those who want to improve their game in order to play at a higher level in the future.

The process of finding and contacting coaches and dealing with the rules and regulations enforced by the NCAA and NAIA is quite a daunting process for both athletes and parents. the use of a golf scholarship recruiting service may be helpful, however for those of us on a budget, with a little work you can do everything that they would offer and you will be in control.

Many fine young athletes are overlooked each year because they didn’t submit their athletic profile to the “right” colleges or left out vital information. It’s also a fact that many colleges simply don’t allocate all of their golf recruiting funds because “suitable” athletes didn’t approach them.

As a high school golfer you should be aware that the standard of play at college level is very high. I would recommend that you watch a few rounds to gauge the actual standard of the game. Remember that only the absolute top players will be approached with offers of golf scholarships.

Most golfers will have to market themselves. I will guide you through this process. now get out and practice and go make some birdies!

Do they drug test for a high school sport physical?

I have golf tryouts in a week and i'm getting a physical for the clearance packet.
I'm a good kid btw i just experimented for the first time two days ago then found out about the physical the next day. Karma is a b****

It really depends what school district you are part of. Your best bet if you can trust someone that is also on the team is to ask them. Also by experimented I hope you are talking about weed because it does not always come up especially if it was your first time smoking and you did not get high. I however have played many sports in hs and never got drug tested. but then again if I did I would have been clean. Best of Luck.

not at all…you are safe. I took a test for a competition and it costs a a good deal of money (had to go to my doctor then sent to LabCor) and i highly doubt the school is willing to pay the extra costs for each student.

hell yea karma is a *****.
but DONT DO DRUGS!!!!
youve prolly heard that a millon times…..O well.
Yes, they might!!

Really stupid thing to do.

But no, usually they don't. good luck in tryouts.

they dont test for drugs at your physical but once you sign the form/waver for your sport they can do random drug tests
