I want to start golfing,I found some Dunlop clubs for a good price, does Dunlop make decent clubs?

i would go to a learning center and take lessons. you will have the opportunity to hit different clubs and find what feels good to you. and get good ones used for now. when you are fully committed then you can buy new ones. dunlop is ok, i prefer taylormade, others like ping, niki, callaway, honma,
mizuno cleveland,don't limit your options.

You have to develop a swing before u can worry about club quality or u will fall in the advertising trap that is the golfing…no manufactures says its not the club its ur swing cause they want u to buy a set of clubs every 2 years…

Why do all my golf drives go to the left?

I currently have a ram square headed driver, and whenever I drive a ball with it, it always go to very far to the left. Please can you tell me some ideas on how to keep the ball going straight?

You might be aiming to far right and pulling it left or simply failing to transfer your weight enough on the through swing

maybe your club is tilted abit that way when you hit it ?

Why do all my golf drives go to the left?

Just started golfing?

going to buy new clubs looked at orlimar brand dont know if they r good or not. I Bought a Acuity driver and hate it i hope the orlimar are better than Acuity brand

Dude i dk but the first day i started golfing, i tried so hard that i got a blister on my thumb. ON MY THUMB!!! can you belive that i never had that before, I didn't enjoy it much because my dad just made me shoot the freaking ball out to no where about 300 of them he got the big basket.

I would probably enjoy it more if i actually could go and try to get it in to the hole.

i got Wilson ultra golf irons and they worked pretty well for me.

any quality club should work just fine. Your main focus as a starter should be to work on swing, putting, and chipping. less focus on the gear and more on game will make it much more enjoyable for you. Once you feel comforatble with your golf game they you can decide on that more expensive set of clubs you plan on using for years.

As an adult beginner in golfing, what tips do people have to offer?

I'm starting as a beginner in golf. I'm now in my 30's, and this good summer weather is making me think of getting involved in something physical, but not too strenuous. So, I went to the driving range for the first time in forever yesterday. I practiced my swing with a driver, and with time, started to get good, straight drives in. now I have to look for advice that will make my swing and an eventual 9-hole game "good enough".

Of course there a lots of websites out there, and I've already investigated many. I've also started shopping on-line and in stores for a beginner's gold club set (complete) that can get me by for a couple years while I improve my game.

So do you all have any advice, tips, or references on playing the game and selecting equipment for an adult beginner golfer?

well most tips on here well be hard to understand i suggest if you havent already go to golf.com and click on the instruction link and clik on the aspect of the game you most need improvement if that be all? they have a really good data base with the top 50 golf instructors of 2007 so its pretty good advice and all have videos too. for a begging golfer here is the absolute best set of clubs not regarding cost your can buy to improve your game.
1. Cobra S irons
2. nike sumo 1 or 2 driver whatever more comfortable 4 you
3. Ping g5i putter
4. titelist vokey wedges
5. callaway warbird 3 wood
6. taylor made rescue 2 tp hybrid 17 or 19 degress depending on how strong you are.
7. also i would play nike one or dunlop loco balls dont buy pro v's cause those are made for extra backspin on the greens which as a begginer you would not need to worry bout
P.S. all those clubs costs around 1300-1500 dollars.
these clubs are classified as super improvement clubs as your progresss as a golfer you will find that "players" clubs will offer a bettter suit for you.
{and dont worry if your good enough to play 9 holes cause as long *** you got your friend with you dont worry bout slowing any one down cause everytime i play i have to wait a couple minits before i play the next hole anyway}

Just be patient. for me, the better I get, the more frustrating golf becomes. When I miss a shot, I feel like I should be able to hit well all the time, but it just doesn't happen.

Learn how to hit punch shots from under the trees . . . very important.

Hit the range pretty hard so you strengthen golf muscles and increase flexibility.

Don't just hit ball after ball after ball. Aim at targets.

Don't hit any club more than 3 times in a row.

Go out and have fun playing golf.

The most important thing before you go out and spend to much money for new clubs is to try and figure out if you will really like the game. The game of golf is very complex and not very easy to learn. sure you can learn to hit the ball. but lets say you are on a 345 yard hole. Your drive has to be about 200 + yards then you have two more shots (as a biginner) to get to the hole. now you have to know what two or maybe one club to get there… now when you are on you have to putt out.. The only way even as and adult learning the game, You have to know how from scratch. So what I am suggesting is if even at 30+ a Professonal Golf Instructor will get you off on the right foot. With strokes and clubs and learning the game right. About the clubs, if you think you want to play first before the lessons, look in the newspaper and you can find some good but cheap (about $100) clubs. I wish you luck golf is a great game and not strenuious (well maybe on the nerves) good luck and enjoy a great sport… Grant in Pennsylvania

I'd call some local courses in your area and see if they are having any group lessons or summer clinics. When I was a teaching professional we always had a few of these in the summer and its a very economical way to get some good advise from a pro.

The two points don't bother me whatsoever. it is my suggestion that you take a few lessons from a teaching professional. That person will teach you the correct grip, stance, swing plane and so forth. Your friend may be an excellent golfer but I am willing to bet he has faults in his game. it is vital that you start with the proper basics. I started my golf by trying to teach myself and listening to others. now I am taking lessons to "unteach" my bad habits and it has made a big difference in my ability. If I knew then what I know now is a well stated. You can find teaching pros that are very reasonable in cost, especially at local municipal courses. take a few lessons, practice what you are taught and I bet you will be beating your friend in no time. You can find reasonable golf sets in a lot of places besides on line. I once found a nice set in a pawn shop. Local golf shops often have used sets, Play it Again Sports. Sports Authority is running a Father's Day special this week.

Two tips for you
Slow down and dont look up. look at the ball, stay on the ball, see the ground after you hit the ball and finally look at the ball, that second one is really important.

take lessons from a pro

1. Learn the rules of golf.
2. Let faster players go ahead of you.
3. Fix your ball marks and rake the sand traps.
4.Leave the wife beater shirts at home.

It is best to have a professional club fitter help you with clubs. but, AMF is trying to get into golf and has fantastic value and quality. I give remote lessons with a camera if you want to try.

Should the golf swing be led by the shoulders or the lower body?

My golf instructor has taught me to lead the swing with the shoulders, but I have heard other golf pros saying that the swing should be led by the lower body and the shoulders should follow. which is correct? To me, it feels more natural to lead with the twisting of the lower body.

Jono..Golf is an action and reaction game which means simply that you intentionally perform an action that will produce the desired reaction. in golf you perform certain movements in sequence during the back swing to produce the desired sequence during the downswing. The last thing that moves during the back swing would be the left heel whether it comes off the ground or not. The planting of the left heel begins the downswing as a reaction and the rest of the lower body simply follows suit in the sequence that you were forced to follow. Having said that it is quite possible to feel that you can control the swing with an unwinding of the shoulders in a way of covering the ball but you can't really make a move without starting from the bottom up. Your instructor is not leading you astray but sometimes a little more information can be a good thing.

well i was always taught to lead with your shoulder but i started working at a country club and met some players on tour like the nationwide or korean or Japanese and after talking to them and playing a couple rounds with them they some time gave me a lesson or two and they have always told me to led with my hips. because when leading with your shoulder you can over extend you body and cause yourself to slice the ball but by leading with your hips it causes you coil your body and generate all the energy you have and if you time it right and go into your downswing and follow with your hips and have everything connecting as one you will see your ball striking and swing plain all on target. but it takes alot of practice and patience.

Well it depends in full swings it should be lead with thhe lower body, but when there are approach shots it should be more of an upper body swing that is why you should open your stance, because when you open your stance it is like haveing your lower body cleared out of the way

You would be correct. If you watch any golfer on tour, they lead with their lower body. Reason? Because power is stored from torque, generated from a large shoulder turn and a limited hip turn. Then at the top of the swing, your hips must turn and lead the way to clear out for the upper body.

I believe the back swing is based upon the upper part of your body turning in unison, with the upper body leading the legs with the right leg in a state of tension. The downswing is led by the lower half of the body leading the upper half.

Both the upper body and lower body have to work in unison for the golf swing to be useful. Planting the lead foot is the start of the whole process for the down swing. If you prefer to swing flat footed the upper and lower body still have to swing as one.

i've taught golf for 11years now . i can hear myself repeatively telling my students that the golf swing is an upper body rotation. the legs are there for your stability and balance. consider your shoulders to be the engine of the golf swing.

Rachael Petralito
allyourgolfneeds.com

The downswing works from the ground up. Look at a good swing in super slow mo. The lower body goes first, hips, shoulders, arms, hands, clubhead. Period. Read Hogans 5 fundamentals. its a great book and explains this better than any book.

both the upper and lower body should work together but with the lower body leading the transition. this brings the club through on plane whereas when you start with the shoulders you have a greater chance of coming over the top.

You should always lead with your upper body as leading with your lower body can cause you to lunge into the ball and this will cause inconsistent ball striking

The correct golf swing should lead with the upper body but the lower body should follow almost instantly. The golf swing is all about timing.

Start with upper body rotation with the shoulders as the catalyst

ur lower body should lead the swing which will automatically pull ur shoulders and upper body

Should the golf swing be led by the shoulders or the lower body?

How to fix my golf swing and shot?

Hey, I am having a real problem with my swing and shots. my shots get a meter high in the air, if that and they just roll along the ground I also make big divots before and after where the golf ball was. what is causing this and how does one fix it?

Golf is a sport enjoyed by many, but perfected by few. one of the great things about golf is that, on any given day, on any given hole, an amateur can play like a professional.

While the success of a great game of golf can be exhilarating and gratifying, a consistently high score can bring about an equal but opposite amount of frustration. And, typically, the root of all a golfer’s problems comes down to one thing: the swing.

There are a lot of elements to a perfect swing, and to achieve it, practice makes perfect. The key of the perfect swing is to execute it unconsciously. that is, without thinking about it. first you must identify your mistakes, and then you must laboriously work to correct them. then, with enough time and practice, you’ll find that you’ll be able to pull off your meticulously practiced swing without having to think about all the little particulars.

While achieving the perfect swing is far more complicated than just a few easy steps, there are some simple tips that will help any golfer’s game.

If you are taking big divots, a lot of the time that is caused when you are trying to swing to hard and through your body at the ball. You need to make sure that once you address the ball you need to make sure that you do not stand up any straighter through your swing cuz this will cause you to blade the ball and hit that low burner and make sure you dont dip that front shoulder that will cause you to dig a grave under the ball. well i hope this helps! Hit em straight!

Hey Eddy, sounds like you are trying to lift the ball as you hit it. Try this drill: Put a pillow or a big headcover about two feet in front of the ball. As you begin to hit balls, try to hit the ball clean and hit it LOW! Try to hit the ball into the pillow, yes try to hit it low. Most golfers who fail to get the ball airborne are trying to hit up on it as the swing thru it. As you try to hit lower shots, the ball will hit the face of the club and deflect up into the air with backspin. Make sure to shift your weight to your forward foot when hitting balls. The massive divot comes from trying to hit the ball with your weight on your back foot as you try to hit it.

Cheers,
Scott Jones, PGA

Eddy, could it be that you are moving your head too fast before actually hitting the ball? that and striking the ground to far away from the ball will make big divots. The club face angle will take care of heights but your swing must be consistent and selecting golf club numbers for the distance is important to get the most out of the hit.
Spartawo…

make sure your divots are in front of the ball not behind. most problems with divots in front or behind the ball is your body height. you may be trying to slam down on the ball which would obviously cause the divot behind the ball, and if you look up its a hopper. i always think of sitting down and turn into my swing and thru staying the same level and not sway, keep your right leg firm(bend a little).

What kind of golf clubs would be best to start off with?

ive been golfing for a couple months and ive been using some old garage sale ones and now i want to buy my first set. im still learning but im pretty good for a beginnner. i went to a golf shop and the salesman directed me to a set of powerbilt dynasty golf clubs. its a 14 piece set. i found cheaper priced ones online but im not sure if i should get them or a different brand to start with. any suggestions? thanks guys!

Get something easy to hit, if your just beginning I wouldn't suggest you spend a ton of money on an expensive set. Start with a set of AMF's of maybe a set of walter hagens. AMF golf clubs are great for beginner golfers.

Assuming that you're a beginner, than I would suggest buying graphite, regular shafted golf clubs with a tad bigger head. they allow more "mistakes" in the swing and are much easy er to use. The down sidde is, that you can't hit a ball with them as far as with the steel shafted…

Do new golf clubs neeed to be broken in?

I just bought the 2006 model of the Callway Big bertha irons and used them today. I couldnt hit any of them for crap and they felt a lot different then at the store. Is it normal for them to need to be broken in?

No, golf clubs are NOT like a car; they don't need to be broken in.

Rather you do……the golfer needs to get used to them.

As to whether or not clubs felt different from in store, two possibilities. First, did you get exactly same models with same shafts? If not, different shafts make a BIG difference in feel. Also, at a store, you are hitting them into a net; not out on a course where you can see ball flight. for some reason, I never think the clubs feel quite the same hitting them inside, off a mat, v outside off grass.

Are you sure that you purchased the Calloways with the same shaft flex, lie angle etc as the demonstrators? Golf clubs need no breaking in. The golfer using them is the one requiring break in. instead of going to the course, get to the practice range and hit many shots with each club. If there is no improvement you have the wrong clubs for your swing.

You have to swing it a lot before you get used to it.

No. You need to get adjusted to the clubs, give it time and you will find them fitting you very well

Before you it swing it a lot

How To Get A Perfect Golf Swing Every Time

Golf is a difficult game to master and most golfers don’t have the time it takes to practice, practice, and practice to significantly improve. when you’re playing golf badly it isn’t a lot of fun. Even the guys who play golf for a living and get the best golf instruction in the world still struggle to improve their golf; and they practice each and every day!

Concentrate totally on your game and you’ll get the best score. The positive energy you send out will influence your game, just as negative thinking and therefore negative energy will affect it also. Golf requires tough mental fitness as well as physical fitness and is often overlooked.

Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing. ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture while swinging. one of the problems that most inexperienced golfers share is they think too much about their swing.

Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment and then relax them. as the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip. Try not to grip the club too tightly.

Putting can become a nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but professionals as well; get expert advice and consider a golf swing aid. Putts and short chips are ideally played without much movement of the body, but most other golf shots are played using variants of the full golf swing.

At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.

Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. At the end of a backswing the hands are above the right shoulder, with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of ball flight.

Workouts with straight crunches won’t improve your swing or driving distance; concentrate on weighted rotational exercises instead. Using a weighted club, make rotational golf swings to improve your power. once you understand that you can change your swing by using a simple technique, you’ll never underestimate golf fitness again.

Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. There are golf swing aids that act as driving range simulators. Golf aids are often for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop.

Most of all don’t waste your money on a golf swing aid you don’t need or will never use. Sporting goods stores have golf aids to improve your game. Look for golf swing aids at your local golf course.

Golf magazines often review the newest golf swing aids and are reviewed by golfers, making it easy to choose the right one for you. Overall, investing in golf swing aids will greatly improve your golf swing and your golf game. if you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find.

Before buying any golf swing aid, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; backlift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or stance for example. In any case, stick to just one golf swing aid at a time; don’t load up on them.

If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly once, you can do it every time. There are a lot of places to get golf swing tips, golf game tips and golf instruction so when you do have time to hit the course, you’ll have a plan in mind. Having a plan and working on specific aspects of the swing or game should be your goal.
