Deepak Chopra – Golf For Enlightenment – Book Review

Dr. Deepak Chopra has written an interesting fictional story about a man named Adam and his quest for the perfect swing. Through Adams story, Dr. Chopra illustrates the insightful parallels between golf and life. there are seven important lessons anyone playing golf should think about. The book is a great read and you’ll find it hard to put down once you start.

I wasn’t expecting much when I first picked up this book that was bought by someone else in the house. I thought it would be pretty boring because of the title, “golf for enlightenment”. however as soon as I started reading it I found it hard to put it down.

The story is a about a man named Adam, a guy who is obsessed about golf but walks off the course in a bad mood. a situation that most of us can relate to. That’s the reason why this book is really enjoyable, because we can relate to it as Adam is a typical golfer.

‘A New way to Play’ and ‘Master of the Game’

There are actually two chapters before this, and a foreword by Jesper Parnevik. The chapters are titled “A New way to Play” and “Master of the Game”. In the first chapter, Dr Copra addresses golf in spiritual terms, which is something that hasn’t been done before or is very rare. as he is himself a golfer, he talks about needing the sensations going through your body just before you hit the ball to be just right as that will determine where the ball will go and that “clear perception” is needed to master the game of golf. Dr Chopra also discusses the need for creativity in golf due to different lies you might get and the many situations you find yourself in while playing. He also mentions that you don’t need to be a “metaphysical bent” to read the book but any golfer can read it and benefit.

Deepak rightly says that the self shouldn’t be forgotten while playing because the self is all important in golf. He proposes a method where you forget about being technically perfect because you lose an element of yourself.(Unless of course it comes naturally to you or you start when you’re young). He talks about his experiences while playing his rounds and how he goes about it. He relates his golf experiences to life extremely well and in an easy to understand manner.

Typical Golfer

Introducing Adam Seaver, a golfer from the Boston Metro Area. He is introduced while playing a frustrating round with his friends. He can hear his friends laughing at him. At this point he gets really mad and just swipes at the ball, slicing it into the rough. When he gets to his muddy ball, he’s far from his friends, it’s drizzling, dark and he’s in a pine covered area like a forest. a voice says “You are going to be a master of the game”. The stranger tells Adam to meet him the following day at a weird location.

The Lessons

What follows is seven brilliant chapters titled, “Be of One Mind”, “Let the Swing Happen”,”Find the Now and You’ll find the Shot”, “Play from your Heart to the Hole”, “Winning is Passion with Detachment”, “The Ball knows Everything”, “Let the Game Play You” and then the Epilogue – “Leela”.

Conclusion

This book contains so much practical information that anyone can use, for life and for anything. It’s highly entertaining and once you start, you’ll just want to keep reading. For a golfer, it’s a must read. It’s something different from all the technical magazines out there and more entertaining as well.

What are some good sets of golf clubs?

I have golfed before but not all the time. I am looking to golf at least once a week now and am looking for a decent set of clubs. What are some good brands? Also I know some people switch out their driver for a better one so is it better to buy a set and buy an extra driver or just buy all clubs separately?

It depends on your skill level. If you can't control your swing or choose a flight path for the ball and the Make it Go There, then it really is just about getting the cheapest beginner level clubs you can find.

The reason: If you hit the ground prior to hitting the ball enough times you will eventually see part of your club flying off into the distance. you will feel much better about it if you didn't spend $500 or more on the clubs. Cheap clubs can be found online or at a Second Hand Store.

There are many goof clubs set such as callaway x24 hot irons, ping k15 irons, titleist ap2 irons.

They are all good. any name brand you get will be a quality club. What is important is to get the club that is good for you. get a fitting at a golf shop so you know what shaft stiffness and length are right for you.

I personally like ping clubs for irons and Callaway Drivers. Ping irons provide excellent shot forgiveness.

Really good Game improvement iron are made by Adams (idea) and Callaway, but for woods go with taylor Made R7

I just got a set of Mizuno MP 60 irons and i love them. I have always been a huge fan of Mizuno irons.

callaway x 20's a least thats what i have and they work very well for me

Hybrid Golf Club: Shoot With More Accuracy

More and more golfers of all levels and experience are using the hybrid golf club. it provides them with added performance and handled and can improve their scores. For any level of golfer, a hybrid club could help you up your game.

What is a Hybrid Golf Club?

The hybrid golf club is a combination of a wood club and an iron club. it provides the positive attributes of both types of clubs; the strength of iron with the flexibility of wood. Specifically it is the mixture of irons and short woods, resulting in a club that carries balls further and has increased backspin. The effectiveness of these clubs stems from the movement of the center of gravity from the middle to back and bottom of the club allowing, it to get the ball in the air quicker and farther out. you are better able to control of the direction and that will help improve your game. Keep in mind that a poor swing is a poor swing and it will still result in a bad shot with even a hybrid.

The hybrid golf club first began with Adams TightLies and Orlimar’s, they were awkward and people did not initially take to them. Hybrids have come far since then and they are increasingly used by consumers. over half of the professional golfers on the PGA tour now have at least one hybrid club in their bags. these clubs bypass the round and bulgy appearance of woods to have shorter shafts and flatter faces to have high spin on the balls and help them land with better accuracy.

Specifically, hybrid golf clubs are best used for recovery shots. They are used on the fairway and work great on shots from behind trees. these are difficult to accomplish with a long iron; this is where a hybrid club comes it. a rule of thumb to determine when and where you can use your hybrid is if you can’t hit with the 2 or 3 or 4 iron and 3 and 5 wood are going to be impossible to hit from that vantage point, this is the situation for the hybrid golf club.

Be sure to research which will work best for the best price and try them out in the store before. They may be a little more expensive but replacing clubs that are not being used and improving your golf game is well worth the price of the hybrid golf club!

What is the best site or shop to buy golf equipment?

Golf Galaxy, Special Tee, Dick's Sporting Goods, your local courses pro shops, 2nd Swing or Golfsmith. I would never buy online though. Going into a store is better because you are able to swing the clubs. the important thing is finding clubs that feel good to you.

golfsmith. You can buy sets, individual clubs, parts of clubs, and have it all shipped right to your house, and if neccessary, they will make it or put it together and then ship it to you. Plus, you can test hit any club you want before you buy it.

I really like Golf Galaxy as they carry most everything and you can try out clubs in their simulators. Golfsmith is just about the same, good selection and pricing.

I have bought stuff off Golfsmith, Edwin Watts, the Golf Warehouse, and Ebay with its assortment sellers. I have purchased the majority of my equipment from Ebay or the Golf Warehouse.

I have had good luck with Rockbottomgolf.com.

I prefer Golfsmith.com, they have just about anything you would want, fast shipping, professional staff, and the prices are competetive with other online or store retailers.

You should always buy it from your local golf professional. Every dollar that you spend on golf "off site" makes green fees higher.

TGW, Golfsmith, and eBay all work well.

Golfsmith retail is awesome

PGA Tour Superstore…if there's one in your area. There are only 10 across the country, but they are the best club fitters in the world.

If you want great deals, try out the site below called GPP Golf.

Where can I find a good golf set for a beginner?

Hi, I'm starting to really get into golfing. I'm 20 years old, 6'3'' and 160 lbs. I'm also a righty. I'm not sure if all that matters but I figured I just let you guys know.

Anyways, I wanted to know your recommendations for a quality and inexpensive golf set for a beginner like me. Also, if you can include where I can find such a set, I'd appreciate it. thank you.

I'd say to go to a pro shop and ask the service person to measure your swing/grip so you know whether or not you're too tall for a standard set, first. Then, once you have the necessary information, go to Ebay and price decent sets of clubs by watching the auctions to get a good idea of the norm; then decide which suits your tastes.
Before you spend hundreds of dollars on something that's not going to help you get better, get a set of used clubs that fit and then work on your stroke. 5 lessons will give you better feedback than 5 sets of clubs or 5 opinions…

Because of your height, standard size clubs may not be comfortable for you. If they were, I'd say any big box retailer (in the US, Dick's, Sports Authority are but two of many) will have an inexpensive set you can buy.

You may want to go to a golf-specific store and see if you need to be fitted or not. If nothing else, you'd know your specs, and could then at least go the ebay route.

Golf clubs can be so expensive but I found that Dick's Sporting Goods is perfect for good quality sets that can be affordable.

On there site there is a guide to buying a golf set.
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/info/i…

I liked this set.
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produc…

Here is some info on the set in the link.

The DICK'S Sporting Goods Exclusive Acuity men's Voltage set includes a Ti-Matrix graphite-shafted driver, graphite-shafted 3 & 5 fairway wood, cavity-backed irons, and an alignment putter. It comes completed with headcovers and a cart bag with 4-way divider top and rain cover.

I like the color too!

Inferno Titanium Complete Men's Golf Club Set with Bag ,
Designed for new golfers this package includes all the clubs needed to start playing and enjoy the game. this package is an excellent choice for players looking for their first set or looking to move up from "hand-me-down" clubs.

My friend has just started playing golf and he bought a full set (including bag) from Costco for £100. Also, JJB Sports have some reasonably priced golf clubs

try a used golf shop or ebay. and your probably going to want regular flex irons.

I get my clubs at the site below

Golf Shoes

Most people tend to think that choosing shoes is mainly about fashion and looks, and hence golf shoes tend not to be one of the things that they think about when looking for ways to improve their golf game. Of course looks are important to most of us, but choosing the right shoe, one that is healthy and comfortable for both you and your feet, really can make a tremendous difference to your swing.

In the past, the choice of golf shoes available on the market was quite limited. however, there are today many different types of golf shoes available in the market. these include golf sandals, golf boots, and even golf shoes that really resemble tennis shoes. The spikes on the various types of shoes can be quite different, so be sure that when you buy a golf shoe, it’s going to give you the results that you are looking for.

When you first consider a new golf shoe, you’ll probably want to try it on in a store before deciding whether to purchase. Golf shoes can also be purchased online too, and online prices are often cheaper than stores, so this is a good option if buying a replacement pair of shoes when your previous pair run out. Of course, there are also some people who try on shoes in the store, mentally choosing the pair that they want, but making their actual purchases from the internet…

When shopping for golf shoes, there are a few things to bear in mind:

- when trying on golf shoes, be sure to wear the same style of socks that you will wear when playing.

- most people’s feet tend to expand slightly during the day, especially as a result of walking around. For this reason, try to do your shoe shopping in the afternoons rather than first thing in the morning, and try to walk for at least 20 minutes before going into the golf/sports store.

- You can find golf shoes available atall sorts of different prices. While there are always exceptions, on the whole, you’ll probably find that better quality shoes tend to cost slightly more, but also last longer and are more comfortable, whereas cheap golf shoes are often a false economy.

In summary, spending a little time thinking about your footwear can having surprising benefits: a better golf game, and one that you’ll enjoy more thanks to improved comfort!

Any tips to be more consistent in golf?

i taught myself how to play golf, although i got some tips throughout my game from my dad but he's not that good. I'm really good for a 13 year old that taught himself golf because right now i can hit a little over 200 yards. but im not always consistent, any tips?

Just got to be totally focus on every single shot

Golf range, golf range, golf range. Hit every club in your bag. Play bad lies good lies and impossible lies. always have a target. the most important thing is to stay relaxed. Tension will ruin a golf shot. Keep your hands relaxed and your arms will stay that way. amazing how crisp your shots will be when you remain at ease. good luck!!!

Practice until you own your swing. Try yoga or pilates or meditating that way you will listen better when the ball is talking to you on the practice range!!!

I'm 67 years old…so I've been playing for over 50 years…and I still try to swing too hard sometimes.
I know better, but it's a bad habit.
Pros hardly ever swing 100%. Don't swing as hard as you can, unless your name is Arnold Palmer.
Swing must be under control, to control your shot.Remembering this, helps me the most.

Any tips to be more consistent in golf?

Golf swing!? – Yahoo! Answers

so today i got to go to the driving range w/ my new orlimar clubs.. first off i have to say i love the irons… and the driver well its decent not great but gets the job done. but when it came down the the transition to the hybrid i couldnt switch my swing. i felt like i was swinging a iron.. i was kickin up dirt on every hit. my friends where telling me to hit it like the fairway wood but i just couldnt do it.. anyone else have this problem w/ the hybrid?

hybrid swings should be similar to a long iron swing. try standing a little taller, and sweeping the clubhead back and through.

Just feel like you're swinging a long iron, nice and smooth. Don't get too steep though. even take a little divot if you need to. Ben Hogan even took a little divot with his fairway woods.

I have used Orlimar clubs since the first drivers came out a fair while ago. My daughter is now using Orlimar irons and wedges and the hybrid as well. I recently got myself an Orlimar 2h which has worked really well for me. one tip I gave a friend who was struggling to use his, was to try and open his stance up a little bit. It worked for him so you might want to just try it.

Good Luck

How to drive a golf ball lower?

As of now, I drive maybe 250-280, but my ball shoots way higher than normal. how should I change my swing, body, posture, etc to make my ball go lower? I've heard lowering the tee helps also. Any tips?

A few simple suggestions…move the ball back in your stance so you're not creating loft by hitting it on the upswing. also look into teeing your ball a little lower. if you start your backswing with a small forward press you'll create a little bit of natual deloft …BUT, the theory of using a lower lofted driver or hitting on a lower trajectory to increase distance due to roll out is not always true. There's that magic ratio between launch angle and spin rate on a higher lofted driver that can qctually gain you more distance. obviously playing a lower flight has its advantages on windy days or course with dried out fairways or courses that have flat fairways, but if you're hitting it out there 280 now, you're no slouch.

You say you now drive "maybe 250 – 280" (yards). You don't say that your drive flies left or right, just that it goes high! so what's the real problem – are you trying for even more distance, greater accuracy, perhaps both?

Since you obviously have a good technique already, what makes you think that hitting it lower will give you more distance? Have you considered why tour players are all hitting it higher to get more distance?

With your existing ability, before doing anything suggested by people who haven't ever seen you play, my sincere recommendation is to go take advice from a good Pro. be careful about tinkering on your own, because a small change to your existing "swing, body, posture, tee height" could easily wreck everything you already have.

Only make changes after a Pro has watched you and given you expert guidance on improvements that will help you. A small change will usually affect something else and you will need an expert there to watch you and show you what to do when that happens.

I suggest you talk with your Pro about the "possible benefit" of having the ability to play a lower drive, e.g. in windy conditions. it is an additional skill that you could perhaps need occasionally, e.g. when the prime aim has to be to land in the fairway.

Enjoy your Game!

Dilly,

I maintain a page filled with free golf driving video lessons at http://www.thisishowyoudoit.com/how-to-d… . You may be particularly interested in the "Hitting the Stinger Drive" video to keep your balls low, straight, and far.

Good luck,
Richard

You might need a stiff shaft if its only with your driver. if your hitting the ball that far and have a regular shaft, the ball will shoot up higher and probably go off line.

If not, you could try any of these:
teeing it lower
bending your knees more
holding your follow through
playing the ball farther back in your stance

I know i hate that. I had that problem when i was a still getting used to it. it may take a little while of practice, but if you are able to train your body to hit lower. Lowering the tee does help! when I was starting out, I used to raise the tee too high and would drive it about 120 but extremely high!

despite the urge to hit down on the ball more… that will only impart more spin on the ball, causing it to climb higher.

The angle of attack actually has to be flattened out… this can be done by sliding your hips a bit (while still turning). This should put some draw spin on the ball (it does for me), so your swing should come a little bit more from the inside.

2 things. Drive the ball off your back foot by moving it back in your stance. that is one way. or; flatten the circular arc of your swing to a more eliptical one, thereby driving the head of the club on a flatter plane through the ball.

Just leave the tee height and everything else the same but just play it further inside your stance.

Is tiger woods pga tour 10 fun for someone that doesn't play alot of golf video games?

I am not the best when I have played the golf games in the past and I was wondering is Tiger woods 10 easy to puck up and play for a beginning?

I just got it from gamefly and it isn't bad. They give you 3 different swing modes, basically easy, medium and hard. The easiest makes the game too easy and the next step up makes it too hard IMO. I can't seem to hit the ball straight unless I swing extremely hard on the medium setting.

I guess it just takes a bit of practice, at least on the Wii. I don't know about Xbox or PS3, but on the Wii it's fairly tricky to get the hang of it.

I prefer Links to Tiger Woods. Woods seems too much like real golf I.E. I suck at it.

Ya it is a pretty good golf game i enjoyed it
