How do I calculate my golf handicap? I only play occasionally and usually never do better than 110. Help!?

I am only a casual golfer. People ask me what my handicap is and I don't know how to answer them. What would my approximate handicap be if I normally shoot scores of about 110 or so? I feel ignorant that I can't give an answer and don't even know how a golf handicap is calculated for someone like myself. please help.

Your handicap is the average number of shots you usually score over par. the maximum handicap for men is 28 e.g. on a par 72 course you would usually score 100. This maximum depends on age/sex.

Therefore your handicap is likely to be the maximum 28.

you are a 36-40 hdcp. it is also based on type of course played. each course has a rating, this rating with hdcp. will give you a hdcp. higher #on course, higher hdcp. etc.

Tell them u shoot over a hunderd. You want a stroke a hole on all the holes but par fives and you want two on thoses. the USGA or the R&a dont list a handicap that high. with that amount of strokes you ought to at least break even or win a hole or two. Its all in fun anyway. If you cant afford to play for a dime or a quarter a hole then you should not be at the golf course. Save that money for food for your kids.

The rules of golf allow for distance measuring devices, but not for ones that measure wind, elevation, slope, etc.

A. Yes. A Committee may establish a Local Rule allowing players to use devices that measure or gauge distance only (see the Note to Rule 14-3). However, the use of a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player's play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.) is not permitted regardless of whether such an additional function

If you are shopping online at a reputable dealer they will tell you which ones are legal for tournament play and which ones aren't.

you can not use one in an official tournament. so learn to walk off distances, i have 110 steps to 100 yards. so 11 steps is 10 yards.

Go to the Encyclopedia Britannica for all the menusha regarding origin and culture. There are no strategies or techniques. There is just the ability to play, the dexterity to excel and following the Rulers of Golf so that everyone understands how the game is to be played. this is something that the " three Stooges – Obama, Reid and Pelosi " aren't able to get through their heads.

This may be the most absurd question, I've ever seen in here. All this can be found on the USGA website…and would take 20 pages to explain and answer this question.

What happens if you hit a putt on the green and it rolls over a friends marker on the green and deviates?? Do you play it as it lies? are there any penalty strokes?

The ROG says you should ask your competitor to move his marker. Other than that, I couldn't find anywhere else that addresses your question. You'd play it as it lies after the ball comes to rest. no penalty. I couldn't find where a ball marker is considered a loose impediment and may be moved or removed. A ball marker is not considered equipment.

So, in my opinion, you play it as it lies, no penalty. I can't imagine anyone who's putting is so good that they might use someone elses ball marker to their advantage to sink a putt.

You play it as it lies with no penalty. on the green , you have control of the opponents' or fellow competitor's ball or marker.you have the right to have it moved.

No ruling. you ask your playing partner to mark his ball outside of the line of your putt. If not, then what happens is what you asked.

You should have had them move their marker if it was in your line.

thats part of the game.. you had the option of asking for that marker to be moved and you didn't ask.. sorry it's your loss.

Are V or U shaped grooves better on golf wedges?

The "u " shaped grooves give the ball more action when hit properly. for the average golfer( 15 plus handicap ) he wouldn't know the difference. But he will buy the product thinking that this is the " magical club."

U groves spin the ball more and will be banned from usga play in 2010….takes a lot of the challenge out of the chip…..

U spin more i guess i think its crap why make the game harder its lame.

I find it odd how courses are changed all the time just in time for a major event.

What is non-conforming golf equipment?

I am new to golf and I am wondering how non-conforming equipment is different, and how does the equipment effect the game?

There are all kinds of ways a club can be nonconforming.

For drivers: clubhead has to fit inside a 5" x 5" box (can help with forgiveness); it can't have a Moment of Inertia number (g x cm2) higher than 5900 (another forgiveness factor); it can't have a Coefficient of Restitution number (trampoline effect of the clubface) higher than 0.83 (creates too much distance, per USGA and R&A); it can't be more than 460 cubic centimeters in volume (yet another forgiveness factor).

Irons and wedges can't have grooves larger than the currently allowed measurements- it adds too much spin- and that's going to get even more strict next year.

A golf ball can be non conforming if it's too heavy/light, too big/small, asymmetrical (not completely round), and fails to meet the initial velocity and overall distance standards set forth by the USGA and R&a.

The R & a and the USGA have met on many occasions to determine what is to be covered in the Rules of Golf and have established parameters regarding the golf club design as well as the golf ball . this is all covered in the Appendices to the Rules of Golf. any club or ball which does not fall within the parameters is considered " non-conforming ".

Essentially it is equipment that has been rejected by the R&a golf club which determines the rules of golf.
This means you can't use this equipment in any competition throughout the world on a golf course.

The ones use to break out the windows in Cadillacs are definitely non conforming.

Sometime in the early 20th century, the USGA invented the handicap system for golfers. it has been called “The great Equalizer” because it made it possible for golfers with all different skill levels to play against each other in the great spirit of competition. If the average score of one player is 96 and they wish to compete with a player whose average is 74, the handicap system now makes this possible. Golfers from all skill levels now enjoy the game of golf as if they were evenly matched and it makes for a great game every time!

In a Nutshell -

The handicapping system works by giving the weaker player a certain number of “strokes” on certain holes. the weaker player can deduct a stroke on that particular hole and, after they are done with all the holes, they count up their scores and figure a “net score”. the actual number of shots minus the handicap makes up the net score and this determines who wins the competition.

Slope Rating –

In the early 1980′s, the USGA handicap system went through a major refurbishment. the idea of “slope rating” became popular and it became important to consider the difficulty of each course before figuring out your handicap. Slope rating determines the difficulty of a golf course by determining what golfers are typically able to score on that course.

The Best of Golfers and the worst of Golfers -

The rating takes into consideration both the “best” golfers and the “worst” golfers whose average scores are compared and used to determine the “slope rating” of the course. the formula is actually quite complicated but, after five rounds of golf, you can turn in your scores to an authorized club and get your own personal handicap. just ask the golf pro at the course to tell you what to do. Eventually, you will be asked to turn in your 10 best scores out of your 20 most recent scores. then you will get your adjusted handicap.

Don’t cheat!

Make sure and include every score in the calculation of your handicap! this will give you the most realistic impression of your game and make it more competitive for you when you compete with other golfers. once you have your course handicap, you’ll be ready to play on an even field with any golfer in the world! “The great Equalizer” has made golf enthusiasts all over the world who now enjoy the game together and will continue to do so for many years to come.
