Why are golf tournaments so expensive?

im 15 years old and i love golf. why are golf tournaments usually $160+?
i find that is pretty expensive and do you think they have golf tournaments that are $50 or less?

Golf tournaments replace the revenue which ordinarily would come from greens fees for open play and the spending by members who have paid their dues in advance. The course and the facilities all have to be maintained, the staff is still employed and are present to serve those playing in the tournament. Who ever runs the tournament is renting the facility. Fees have increased because many events now include the use of the range, range balls , lunch and refreshments. The state golf association or the USGA also have paid people who run the affair. The only free help comes from volunteers who act as course officials and rules people.

Look on your city's (or surrounding city's) websites. Municipal tourneys are typically more affordable, especially for city residents. look for the city championship, jr. city championship, etc.

I think what you may be looking into that's costing $160 or more are golf "outings", which aren't typically individual contests (medal play), but rather 4-man scrambles that include; drinks, dinner, prizes, etc.

If you find a municipal city tournament, it will likely be an individual stroke play tournament for a trophy rather than money or prizes, so it won't interfere with your amateur status.

These need to be funded:
-greenskeepers/course workers
-organizers
-restraunt servers
-back shop workers

-dinner/cookout
-tee times
-cart maitenance
-prizes (good tournaments will have good stuff even for the last placed golfer)
-cash prizes.

see, alot of money goes into the tournament, therefore to enter, you must pay a hefty fee.

Golf's roots are one of elitism. Did you know the initiation fee at Liberty National, the site of this weeks Barclays Championship is 500 grand? that is to join the club. That's a lot of Washingtons dude. anyway, it takes money to keep tournaments going so if you want to play, you're gonna have to pay.

The course that is running the tournament has a lot to pay for and that's just golf. Its expensive and that's what I hate about it. they may have some for less then $50 but they probably aren't huge tournaments but idk the courses around your area so they could be.

People, places, and organizations have to be paid. The course is going to require a fee for each player as is whatever people or organization(s) running the event. and don't forget prizes, lunch, beverages, etc, etc.

usually golf kits are came for 2000$+ and again golf needs a larger area and lots of management hence it includes lots of people and mostly golf is considered as a richy thing so golf tournaments are so expensives

you need to pay in order to use the golf course

So they can make money.
