Top Tips For Improving Your Handicap

Enjoyed by men, women and children alike, Golf is no longer just a gentleman’s game! Growing in popularity the sport is now enjoyed by all ages.
Are you a lover of the sport? If so you may find these helpful tips and tricks intended to benefit all golfers regardless of there ability to up your game.

Practice
Stating the obvious, practice makes perfect and quality not quantity is key! As little as one hour a day for four times a week can demonstrate marked improvements in your game. An intense hour focused on your form will be much more beneficial than a half day at the driving range, catching up with your friends (although the latter may sound more fun).

Attitude
Maintain a positive mental attitude for the entire round of golf. Stay confident, believe in your abilities, and if you do drop a shot or two, move on from it, don’t loose your cool, stay focused and move on positively. Become angry will cloud your focus and will negatively effect the rest of your round! Remember concentration and composure is essential for success!

Getting a Grip
The size of your hands, the strength and length of your forearms, and the actual grip on your club are a few factors that can affect your golf grip.
Choose a grip for your club with suitable thicknesses for your hands, look for a comfortable and secure grip that you can really hold on tight to. You can do some lightweight exercises to improve the strength of your arms. The size of your hands can’t be modified, but you can choose a grip style better suited to the size of your hands. Grip styles to try out include the Vardon Overlap Grip, Interlocking Grip and the Ten Finger Grip.

The Backswing
The start of the swing – get this part right and the rest will fall nicely into place! It is important that you keep your left arm straight (vice versa for left handed golfers), take it as far back as you can without it bending, when you have reached as far back as possible, your ready to progress to into your downswing.

Downswing
For a perfect downswing you will need to gradually increase the speed of your swing from start to finish. A solid stance, making a secure triangle with your legs and keeping a straight back and focused mind will set you up for success.
Try and put some of these tips into practice and see the marked improvements in your game.
